Since 1989, under the leadership of Dr. Eric Bauce, the forest entomology research team has focused on the protection of forests against insect pests. Our efforts are aimed at elucidating and improving tree resistance to insect pests. Some of the forest pest control tactics currently used in the province of Québec were either improved or developed from research carried out at this lab by past or current members of the team. Other tactics are presently in various stages of development. The knowledge acquired over the past 10 years has allowed us to better understand several host tree-insect interactions, both from the insect behavior and the plant and insect physiology points of view. Our activities lie within Université Laval's mission of knowledge acquisition and transfer. Over the years, 14 graduated students and trainees from several countries were able to acquire both knowledge and skills in scientific research and in forest entomology while working in this lab.
